I build websites for users

What my wife and kids think I do: Dispose of dead bugs in the houseI create user-focused web solutions for a wide variety of businesses by applying my User Experience (UX) Skills and Technical knowledge to my clients’ great ideas, industry trends, the best ideas of competitors, and the latest technology. I have been developing my craft for over sixteen years, and I like to think I am pretty good at it. But I prefer to surround myself with folks who are even smarter than I am. These folks often specialize in one particular facet of web site creation or application development. They also teach me a heck of a lot of stuff.

I like to think of myself as the glue that holds the pieces together. That is to say, at the end of the project I would prefer folks notice everything but the user experience. No one ever looked at a cool model airplane and said, “Nice glue job!” But without the glue, applied in the right amounts to just the right places, the model will fall apart entirely. Most people notice the user experience when things fall apart.

What’s a ‘UX Leader’?

One person operating in a vacuum cannot produce a stellar user experience. It takes great developers, writers, marketing pros,  information architects, interface designers, business analysts, testers, and engaged clients all working together to make a site really perform for users in a way that appears effortless. And it takes a leader who can understand all of those positions, accept the challenges and restraints of the project, and continue to bring the conversations back to “what is best for the user” for the project to be a true success in the eyes of the users.

So that’s what I am… a UX Leader. I am usually one of the first folks to talk to the clients, I am involved in every step of the creation and delivery process, and I am the one that follows up with you down the road to see how things are going and to suggest improvements.
